Your Guide To Using The steadyGROWpro Germination Station
The steadyGROWpro Germination Station is suitable for a wide variety of flowers,
herbs and vegetable seeds. SteadyGROWpro media has an unlimited shelf life. The
sheets are pre-scored so you may separate the media into the number of cells
you need and store them for later use.
Media Preparation
Make sure all equipment, trays and tools are clean and sterilized using a disinfectant.
Completely saturate the steadyGROWpro sheet. Let the excess water drain away into the
10" x 20" tray, and then pour out any remaining water from the bottom of the
tray.
Sowing Seeds
-
Be sure to use quality seeds from a reliable source. Sow these seeds in the presoaked
steadyGROWpro sheet by placing one seed in each of the prepunched holes. You may choose
to overseed each hole to compensate for germination loss or in order to choose the
healthiest plant from each hole. Make sure the seeds drop to the bottom of the prepunched
holes. - Do not cover the seeded holes with any other material.
- Wet the steadyGROWpro sheet again after the seeds have been sown. Do not overwater. Maintain a water level of ⅓ of the steadyGROWpro sheet height. It will take about 70 ounces of water to reach a water level of ⅓ of the steadyGROWpro sheet height.
- Cover the grower tray with the clear lid provided.
- Mist media as needed, check moisture by gently pressing down on the base of the media. This area should feel moist but not waterlogged at all times. The top of the media will feel dry in-between watering, but the bottom base should never be allowed to dry out completely.
- For maximum results, keep the room temperature at 75° - 80° F.
- Keep your germination station exposed to light for at least eight hours per day.
- Empty any excess water which may collect at the bottom of the tray.
Germination
The clear lid covering creates the needed humidity only for the germination process.
Once root development is apparent, introduce a nutrient solution as recommended by
the specific plant needs. Lighting and temperature should also be adjusted specific
to the plant needs as well. Check the instructions on your seed packets for these
adjustments and for nutrient recommendations. Do not use the provided dome during
this stage in order to reduce the introduction of disease. When you have five or
more roots protruding from the bottom of the steadyGROWpro sheet, it is time to
transplant.
Before Transplanting
To avoid transplant shock, it is important to harden off your young plants. Before
transplanting, place your steadyGROWpro tray and plants outside in the shade for
5 - 7 days. Bring the plants indoors during cool nights. During this period,
gradually expose to full sunlight before transplanting.
Transplanting steadyGROWpro to Soil or Soil Mixes
To transplant, separate the emerging seedlings from the steadyGROWpro sheets. The sheet
media is pre-scored for easy separation. Make sure the germinated seed and the separated
steadyGROWpro sheet media is still well saturated before planting to soil. Plant the
steadyGROWpro cell with the emerging plant into the soil into a hole between 1/8" to ΒΌ"
below the soil's surface. The steadyGROWpro cell should be buried into the soil with only
the plant protruding from the surface. Water again thoroughly. You may add fertilizer to
your watering regiment per the instructions of your specific plant needs. Maintain a watering
regiment to keep the soil moist, but not soaked at the surface. If transplanting to a
container filled with soil, be sure the container holding the media can drain well.
Transplanting to steadyGROWpro Blocks and Slabs
Make sure the germinated seed and the separated steadyGROWpro sheet media is still well
saturated before transferring to steadyGROWpro blocks. Plant the steadyGROWpro cell with
the emerging plant into the predrilled hole on the SteadyGROWpro block. The steadyGROWpro
cell should be pushed down into the predrilled hole making sure the bottom of the cell is
in contact with the bottom of the predrilled hole. Any void in the hole may be filled with
soil or a soil mix. Make sure the emerging plant protrudes from the surface of the block.
Water again thoroughly. You may add fertilizer to your watering regiment per the
instructions of your specific plant needs. Maintain a watering regiment to keep the
steadyGROWpro block moist, but not soaked at the surface. Once root formation can been seen
on the bottom of the blocks, you may transplant your steadyGROWpro blocks to a steadyGROWpro
slab or planted into soil or soil mixes. Click here for more information on
